We advise you to drop off your suitcases because of the structure of the streets and alleys of this district. Climbs, descents, and stairways certainly cannot be tackled with a cumbersome baggage.
Garbatella is a village within the city, rich in history and architecture, with typical gardens and characteristic houses.
In this area of Rome, several famous Italian films and TV series have been shot.
Over the years, Garbatella has become a symbol of Romanity, even if its origins are quite recent. In fact, Garbatella was born in the 1920s from an idea by Paolo Orlando, an engineer, and politician who died in 1943. The idea of the farsighted engineer was to create a river network parallel to that of the Tiber to facilitate transport to and from Ostia, but this project was unfortunately never realized.
From the ashes of that idea, however, a district divided into lots and inspired by the splendid English garden towns was born.
